Unilateral Nasal Congestion and Upturned Nose Correction Surgery- NOSELAB Dr. Chayoung Kang

Introduction

Hello, I am Dr. Chayoung Kang, Director of Noselab Rhinoplasty Clinic.

Today I will introduce the case of a surgery to correct an blunt and upturned nose presenting nasal congestion on the right side. This patient had received various non-surgical treatments before, but was never able to obtain the desired results and decided to undergo surgery. I hope this blog post is of help to people who have similar worries.

This patient was stressed about her nostrils that were excessively showing, her upturned, wide and blunt nose tip, and the presence of nasal congestion on the her right nostril. She decided to get surgery since she wanted the nostrils to be narrower and more natural-looking than they currently were.

Preoperative Design Consultation

Especially, the patient wanted to prevent her nose from flaring when smiling, and to improve the shape of the nose tip and bridge. She preferred a straight nose that was not too long and a shorter midface.

Before surgery, the nose was short and wide. After surgery, the nose looked longer and more balanced.

From the oblique angle, the nose looks more three-dimensional. Before surgery the wide and flat appearance was prevalent, but the nose took on a more natural and sophisticated look after surgery.

The septal extension graft transformed the overall side profile. Before surgery the nasolabial angle was unnatural-looking, but after surgery it can be observed that it has been corrected to the ideal angle.

The visible nostril asymmetry issue was solved. Before surgery, both sides were asymmetric but after surgery the nostrils became more balanced.

Overview

Through this surgery, the patient got rid of the short and wide shape of the nose, and got a more balanced and natural appearance. When the patient first visited the hospital she said she wanted a very natural result, but right before entering the surgery, she said she would like the nose not to be too natural, and to be slightly noticeable and beautiful. It was not a very exaggerated design but we still managed to improve the appearance of the upturned nose. Of curse, during the recovery period, the nose may look slightly higher for until 6 months, but after that, the nose will look slightly sophisticated, pretty and natural.
